Proper eye care is important for people of all ages and regular eye exams are encouraged for everyone. Many eye and vision problems have no obvious signs or symptoms. As a result, individuals are often unaware that problems exist. Early diagnosis and treatment of eye and vision problems are important for maintaining good vision and eye health, and when possible, preventing vision loss. At Rabbitt Family Vision Center, we provide a variety of services, from comprehensive eye exams to vision therapy and sports vision training.

Glaucoma Testing
Glaucoma is a GROUP of disorders. What they all have in common is damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve is made up of a bundle of nerves which transmits visual signals to the brain. Damage to the optic nerve can initially cause blind spots at the outer edges of the field of vision often called peripheral or side vision. As this damage progresses, the field of vision becomes more narrowed as in tunnel vision.
It is said that Glaucoma is one of the “sneakiest” diseases affecting nearly three million Americans with half of them not even knowing that they have it. Because there really are no noticeable symptoms until after actual damage has been caused, it is important to have it checked during your annual exam. At Rabbitt Family Vision Center, we will evaluate the appearance of your optic nerve and measure your intraocular pressures to determine whether you are at risk or not.
Contact Lens Evaluation
In order to make sure that your contact lenses perform optimally, a contact lens evaluation will be provided. It consists of keratometric measurements (the shape of your cornea) and evaluation of the actual fit with a slit lamp biomicroscope.
Most of the time, you will leave with a pair of diagnostic lenses. These will give you an idea of how your order should perform. If you have never worn contact lenses before,we will teach you how to insert and remove your contacts and schedule you for a follow up one week later.
Lasik
Lasik is the latest in refractive surgeries. It involves creating a flap and using a laser which is controlled by a computer to change the shape of your cornea.
We co-manage with Lasik Surgeons Mark Johnston and Vance Thompson. This means we do your before and after care, while these doctors do the actual surgery.
Pre-op includes the measurements that the surgeons use to perform the surgery as well as a detailed evaluation of the front surface of your eye.
Post-op includes a series of follow up visits to insure a normal and healthy healing process. Those visits typically take place at one day, one week, one month, three months, six months and one year, from your Lasik surgery.
Cataracts
Cataracts are any obstruction within the crystalline lens that prohibits light from passing through to form a sharp image on the retina in the back of the eye. There are several types of cataracts and they range in severity from only slight to complete blockage of light and vision.
There are actually many different causes of cataracts as well. If you get hit in the eye it can cause a Traumatic Cataract. Some medications can cause cataracts. Exposure to UV light can also cause cataracts. Congenital cataracts are present at birth, caused from a complication in development.
Foreign Body Removal
With active people, it is not unusual to get foreign objects in the eye. Metallic, organic, you name it. Even the smallest piece of something can create extreme pain and irritation.
The doctors at Rabbitt Family Vision Center are trained and have the proper equipment to help you when that happens. Why trust the care of your eyes to a Dr. on call that may not be familiar with eyes or may not be available for several hours.
Your Medical Insurance will generally cover this, or if you don’t have medical insurance our Office Visit fees are usually much less than the hospital would charge.
Vision Therapy
Do you have an intelligent child that struggles in school? There are many misdiagnosed ADD and ADHD children that simply have vision and processing difficulties that could be remediated with vision therapy.
Vision therapy consists of the use of lenses and prisms along with eye exercises that enable the eyes to work together and become more efficient. Vision therapy helps correct numerous eye conditions such as Strabismus, otherwise known as eye turns. It helps improve reading abilities and comprehension. It also reduces eye strain and headaches.
Exercises are taught based on the patient’s current level of ability determined from the initial evaluation and monitored during weekly sessions. These exercises are intended to be challenging but not overwhelming. As the patient progresses, the degree of difficulty of the exercises is increased.
Our 24 week program is set up in 6 week blocks with re-evaluation at the end of each block. When the patient reaches their goal level they are given maintenance exercises that they can do at home, periodically on their own to maintain their level.
Eye Disease
Some diseases of the eye can go undetected for years. The prognosis for many of these diseases is much better when detected earlier rather than later. Optometrists are taught how to detect and treat these diseases. Although many go to the eye doctor only when they have difficulty visually, an annual eye exam is designed to evaluate the health of your eyes.
Health conditions that we routinely observe during our examinations are elevated cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes. Other eye maladies that are evaluated during our examinations include: Cataracts, Glaucoma, Corneal complications, Uveitis, Scleritis, Retinopathy and Macular Degeneration to name just a few.
