Glaucoma Testing

Glaucoma is a GROUP of disorders. What they all have in common is damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve is made up of a bundle of nerves which transmits visual signals to the brain. Damage to the optic nerve can initially cause blind spots at the outer edges of the field of vision often called peripheral or side vision. As this damage progresses, the field of vision becomes more narrowed as in tunnel vision.

It is said that Glaucoma is one of the “sneakiest” diseases affecting nearly three million Americans with half of them not even knowing that they have it. Because there really are no noticeable symptoms until after actual damage has been caused, it is important to have it checked during your annual exam. At Outpost Optical, we will evaluate the appearance of your optic nerve and measure your intraocular pressures to determine whether you are at risk or not.
